Al Hayah
Al Hayah started broadcasting in 2008 during the last years of Mubarak's rule, which saw a revival in the ownership of the media. It was founded by businessman El Sayed El Badawi as part of Al Hayah Channels Network. El Badawi assumed the presidency of the Wafd Party from May 2010 until March 2018. El Badawi is one of the businessmen who played political roles in addition to owning media outlets, such as Al Dostor (link to profile).
El Badawi sold Al Hayah to Falcon Group in September 2017, that then transferred the ownership of the channel to the Egyptian Media Group in July 2018. While doubts are raised concerning the military intelligence funding of Falcon's economic activities, the Egyptian Media Group is a subsidiary of Eagle Capital Investment, owned by the General Intelligence Service.
Al Hayah offers free content that combines political coverage and entertainment. According to the May 2017 Ipsos data, Al Hayah was the second most popular public channels after MBC Masr.
The TV channel is headed by Tamer Morsi, one of the Egypt most prominent and successful TV drama producers. He founded Synergy Productions, which produced widely-watched TV series. He was appointed Chairman of the board of directors of the Egyptian Media Group in February 2018 by Dalia Khorshid, former Investment Minister and the current chairman of Eagle Capital Investment. Since Morsi started managing the Egyptian Media Group, he concluded acquisition deals of Al Hayah and CBC channels. Synergy Productions was also acquired by the Egyptian Media Group.
