Al Dostor for Press, Publishing and Distribution
Al Dostor for Press, Publishing and Distribution is the publisher of the daily Al Dostor and its online version. Al Dostor for Press, Publishing and Distribution was founded in 1995 by businessman Essam Ismail Fahmy and is registered as a joint stock company.
Essam Ismail Fahmy owned and founded a number of private newspapers including Al Dostor newspaper, Sawt Al Umma newspaper and Ain newspaper specializing in art. Essam Ismail Fahmy died in January 2015, and was then Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sawt Al Umma newspapers. Fahmi played an important role in the experience of issuing private newspapers in Egypt through Al Dostor newspaper, which he founded in the mid-1990s.
In 2010, Fahmy’s shares were transferred to two businessmen, El Sayed El Badawi, the former owner of Al Hayah network and head of the Wafd Party (2010-2018) and chairman of Sigma Pharmaceutical Industries, and Reda Edward, who once was a member of the Supreme Committee of the Wafd Party in 2010. A prominent businessman with activities in the field of education, Edward became the chairman of Al Dostor in 2010 after he bought El Badawi’s shares.
At the time of the purchase, Journalists’ Syndicate board member Gamal Fahmy stated Edward’s purchase was illegal and observers attributed the deal to an attempt to silence Ibrahim Eissa.
At the beginning of January 2017, Reda Edward announced that Al Dostor for Press, Publishing and Distribution had been sold to a group of businessmen. However, neither the new owners not the amount of the deal were not disclosed. Early 2017, Mohammed El-Baz was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Al Dostor and sits on the board of the company.
